Hey Everyone, whoever is reading this - I'd like to hear some thoughts about good / great ufc fights that you've seen, and then I can watch them. I'm moving through the championship fights slowly. You can post it in the forum or reply to this blog. Thanks.

UFC 61

Well,

I was holding my breath to watch UFC 61 with the Ortiz vs. Shamrock fight, after watching the Ultimate Fighting Season - it was building itself up to be huge. But like all highly anticipated events - it fizzled out in less than 2 minutes when the fight was called due to Shamrock taking elbows like they were candy. Without defending himself the fight ended with Ortiz grinning from ear to ear and Shamrock wondering what the hell happened. The rest of ufc 61 was good, but after watching the Shamrock / Ortiz letdown fight - i wasnt' really interested. I guess that age could have something to do with the loss there is about a 15-20 year gap between the two and we'd all like to think that age doesn't have to dictate your strength - but it does.

UFC 59

After watching the latest UFC championship - UFC 60 - I got my hands on the UFC 59 tape and watched it. The main fight was fucking awesome - it was Andrei Arlovski and Tim Sylvia. The previous fight between these two ended with Arlovski winning in the first round and I suspected that would happen again. I was wrong, after dropping Sylvia with a hammer for a right hand, Arlovski allowed Sylvia to get back up. Sylvia managed to deliver his own solid right and dropped Arlovski to the ground. That was that - Sylvia jumped on the opportunity and the match ended in the first round.
Tito vs. Forrest Griffin. This fight was good, mostly because Griffin is a tough SOB and pushed through a huge pounding and managed to put up a fight with a bad cut over his eye.
Both Scott Smith (David Terrell vs. Scott Smith) and Justin Levens (Evan Tanner vs. Justin Levens) lost by choke out and the rest you'll have to see. Definately a championship fight worth renting or buying.

UFC 60

I've been waiting for awhile to watch the ufc 60 championship this event, the Gracie vs. Hughs showdown was sounding good and it was over quick with Gracie walking away without the victory. Hughs once again showed his monkey like strength in an impressive victory.

Joe Riggs is always enjoyable to watch and powerful, I hadn't heard much about his competitor Mike Swick, but I definately learned that he's quick and good at submissions. There's something about watching a good submission that makes me happy -

Jeremy Horn is a fighter that can take a beating and still win - not afraid of his own blood and Chael Sonnen found that out. Through a rough beating Jeremy Horn managed to take the win.

Ultimate Fighting Champion 3 - episode 6

This series is building up good, until last weeks episode where I decided to turn my wife on to the show - since it started to turn into a soap opera. If they want to create twists and turns in the show - fine - but give me a fight at the end. Noah crying about his girlfriend doesn't substitute for a fight. There are alot of good fighters left and I can't wait to see them face off - but I hope that the show isn't trying to change itself into more than what it is - a good reality based show with fighting every episode. I'd like to hear what other people think on this one. In the end I can't wait to see the shamrock vs. ortiz rematch.

On a side note I watched my first pride fight last night and I like that alot - the fighting is a little bit different - thicker gloves - but you can stomp, kick, knee... while a person is on the ground - much more realistic fight allowing the fighters to take full advantage of a person being on the ground.

Matt Hughs vs. Joe Riggs

Just finished watching the ufc 56 championship. Best fight of the night was the Matt Hughs vs. Joe Riggs Fight. Joe couldn't make weight so the belt wasn't on the line but they fought anyways and the weight proved not important. When I started watching the ufc fights I started at ufc 44 - mostly because it's hard to find the earlier ones to rent. I'm going to have to find a way of renting them though - because the earlier fighting championships were much more intense and had less rules. The Gabriel Gonzaga vs. Kevin Jordan fight was the least favorite - after about 1 minute of fighting - both fighters were exhaused and literally didn't swing at eachother or make a move for 90% of the fight.

Andrei Arlovski

I just finished watching UFC 53 and 1 fighter more than any other impressed me, Andrei Arlovski. This guy is a bull and the accuracy of his fists are astounding. He's one of the main reasons I enjoy the UFC so much - fighters like him are fun to watch and the fights usually end pretty fast. Best fight of the night for me was the Evan Tanner vs. Rich Franklin - both warriors and Tanner just keeps going and going - he's not young, but he's a tough sob. The acrobatic fight of the night was Karo Parisyan and Matt Serra - both really good grapplers and very entertaining to watch them move in and out of submission attempts, sweeps and reversals. I'm going to try to rent some pride fights from netflix and see a little more graphic fighting.

UFC 44 - Randy Couture vs. Tito Ortiz

After watching UFC 43, I was very excited about the possibility of Randy Couture fighting Tito Ortiz for the light heavy weight title. Sure enough UFC 44 arrived in the mail yesterday compliments of Netflix. I had another two and a half hours of fighting to watch and the line up looked very intriguiing - lot's of heavy weight ultimate fighting.

The match of Rich Franklin v Edwin ‘Baby Face’ Dewes (Light Heavyweight) was pretty one sided but still had alot of good action. Edwin is really young (21 I think) and Franklin is older and much more experienced. That's pretty much how the fight played out.

Jorge Rivera v David Loiseau (Middleweight) was a great fight. Jorge Rivera kept battling through even though 2 huge gashes were opened up on his skull from the powerful elbow snap of David Loiseau. This one went the distance and it was a good thing for Loiseau that the 3rd round ended - because he was getting pummelled at the end of the fight. Rivera - who's used to fighting much bigger and stronger heavy weights is tough.

Tim Sylvia v Gan McGee (Heavyweight Title) was another promising fight - 2 really big guys. Tim Sylvia is like 6'8" and Gan Mcgee is 6'11" - two giants. I had seen Tim Sylvia fight before and without exception next to Royce Gracie - he's the second toughest fighter I've ever seen. This proved true 1 minute into the first round when Gan McGee decided to take a nap. Great 1 minute fight though - great KO.

The ufc fight between Andrei Arlovski and Vladmir Matyushenko (Heavyweight) was another great looking fight. I had heard that Arlovski was going to fight Tito Ortiz in the upcoming new UFC Champion bout, so I was excited to see him fight. It didn't take long for Arlovski's long reach to prove extremely effective and his uppercut ended this match with a KO.

Karo Parisyan v Dave Strasser (Welterweight) was a good fight and the first submission win of the night. It's amazing how quickly a submission can end the fight - this was close until Parisyan got ahold of Strassers arm and put it in a arm lock I haven't seen before (Kimura arm bar) - and he locked it - 2 seconds later the fight was over.

Nick Diaz v Jeremy Jackson (Welterweight) - this fight ended with a submission as well - a great fight up until then though. This was a grudge match between a striker and a wrestler, with Nick Diaz's training under Royce Gracie proving beneficial. There was alot of striking and alot of wrestling and it looked like it was going Jeremy's way for the win until Diaz got the arm bar.

Finally the main event - Randy Couture v Tito Ortiz (Light Heavyweight Title). The last fight I watched with Randy Couture was against Chuck Liddell (who was supposed to fight Tito Ortiz - but Tito bowed out of the fight and Randy replaced him) and he beat him up - it wasn't close it was a pummeling with him fully mounting chuck liddell and beating him until the ref. called the fight. I expected this fight to be much closer and it started out looking that way, but the tide quickly changed. Randy took ortiz to the mat over and over and over again, managed to get a full mount and pound him - however tito avoided most of these punchs - and the fight ended with ortiz on the ground attempting a feeble leg lock - while Randy patted him on the butt in a more teacherly way - like saying, "What exactly did you think you were doing - nice try but your screwed." The pats were mixed up with some nice fists to Tito's upper back thigh. It ended with the judges unanimous decision - which officially made Randy Couture the first man to take the heavy weight title as well as the light heavy weight title.

Awesome fights.

UFC 43 - Randy Couture vs. Chuck Liddell

I just signed up with netflix and I have set up all of the ufc dvd's to be sent over to me. So far netflix only carries ufc 43 and up - so last night I received ufc 43 in the mail and popped it in the dvd player. I was excited to see the main event Randy couture vs. Chuck Liddell, but there were other fighters that I was pysched to see as well - such as "Kimo Leopoldo".

The dvd starts off the Pedro Rizzo vs. Tracy Telligman fight, which was a good way to start this off - the first thing that caught me eye is someone stole half of Tracy Telligman's chest - his whole right side of his chest is gone, literally gone. However he's still a strong son of a bitch. Great fight. The Frank Vitale vs. Matt Lindland fight was good until one of the fighters fucks themselves and then gets beat up. The highlight of the night was when Wes Sims lost his shit and started stomping on Frank Mir's face after pile driving him to get out of an arm submittion - BAD ASS! He dropped like 5 chin shots with the heel of his foot in a second - fucked up Frank Mir's face and got disqualified for this move since it's illegal in the UFC rule book. The Vernon Tiger White vs. Ian Freeman fight was built up because Vernon is getting old and he's in great shape. This fight was ended in a draw, which sucks - it was a good fight to watch. In the Vitor Belfort vs. Marvin Eastman fight it started off looking like Marvin had an advantage - however Vitor very quickly wins respect as an explosive fighter - this was a great fight to watch. Yves Edwards vs. Eddie Ruiz was a one sided fight, Eddie is a strong guy and doesn't give up, but in the end Yves is a much more experienced fighter and slowly picks Eddie apart.

The next fight was Kimo Leopoldo vs. David "Tank" Abbott and I was excited for this bout. The first time I say Kimo Leopoldo fight it was against Royce Gracie, and he's the only fighter that I've seen really stand a chance against Gracie - of course i've only seen a few Royce Gracie matches - all of them have ended in Gracie submitting the oppponent either before or after snapping a bone. In UFC 43 Kimo was faced off against David "Tank" Abbott, and it looked like it could be a good fight - unfortunately Abbott has little wrestling skills and Kimo is well trained in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu fighting and it only took a couple minutes to submit Abbott - choked out.

The final match between Randy Couture and Chuck Liddell was finally on and I was ready. I'd heard alot about Chuck Liddell's fighting skills and specifically power, however Rand Couture is a heavy weight champion that moved down a weight class and that could make thing go either way. However the way that it went was Randy Couture dominated Chuck Liddell the whole match. It was a great fight to watch and I'm really excited to watch the progression of these UFC bouts, next coming in the mail is going to be UFC 44 and should be here today when I get back from work.

Royce Gracie is a bad ass!

Team shamrock keeps getting their asses handed to them lately. Of course the last fight proved that shamrock's fighter Ross is a little bit overmatched, don't get me wrong I don't want to face off with him - he's a bad ass - but can't really do anything once they hit the mat. The fights are just gonna get better and better, team shamrock has quite a few serious fighters left and I can't wait to see how they perform. Kalib is the fighter that I can't wait to see in a match, he's been talking about how bad ass he is and the number of fights that he's been in and Ortiz mentioned that it was a mistake to not pick him for the Tito team. They should cut all the reality television shit and start putting 2 matches per episode - that's all most people wait for and want - the FIGHT!

As much as I enjoy the tv series "the ultimate fighter" it's also nice to watch "ufc unleashed" to see some serious fights. Last nights unleashed episode focused on Royce Gracie and shit - he's not afraid to break some bones or kill ya to win. The upcoming big match between him and Matt Hughs is going to be the fucking nuts.

I continue to watch the UFC because they keep providing some of the best fights I've ever seen or heard about.

I grew up with the world wide wrestling federation, whose members included hulk hogan, the junk yard dog, the "macho king" randy savage... Eventually I stopped watching it due to a little boredom and because it wasn't officially real. Sure they got hurt, and did some pretty extreme daredevil stunts - but they weren't really FIGHTING. Then I moved into watching boxing because it sure was real, real blood and a real desire to put the opponent down to the mat. For a long time boxing filled a gap in my life that was missing since I departed from the wwf.

Then one day I turned on the tv and started watching my first ultimate fighting champion match - I was hooked. The intensity of the fighters combined with the martial arts and boxing knowledge kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the whole show. Traditional boxing fades to the background when confronted with the ultimate fighting champion matches. I started watching the ultimate fighting champion tv series and was very pleased with this reality based show. I expected it to be like most other reality tv shows, but instead it was intense and the culmination is usually really good. Growing up I definitely had my fair share of the WWF matches and then grew out of it, now the ufc finally blends elements of two sports that I thoroughly enjoy, boxing and wrestling (with martial arts thrown in as an EXTRA bonus). The punishment that these fighters willingly take is a marvel to watch and the ufc is steadily growing in popularity. This website will soon be turned into a blog so that I can update it frequently.
